Richard Sexton Yup. Long story short, the Brazil nut is the South America the equivalent of the African Gabon nut of Africa. Forest dwellers in Gabon who eat a curry daily made with Gabon nuts and never get sick from exposure to the Ebola virus. In 1995 one researcher (Taylor) found selenium was implicated in the ebola virus and in 2015 a researcher to Harvard (Lipinski) looked at this to explain the chemistry he found it applies to nearly all viruses, not just Ebola.

Mike Maas sodium selenite or selenocysteine or selenomethionine? Lipinski emphasizes the redox functionality of the selenite and does not mention the other forms. I read that selenocystein is metabolized to the same form as selenite which is different from that of selenomethionine. It sounded like the selenite/cysteine form might both the active site to stop the virus. OTHO it seems that at least some of the assessments depend only on methionine serum levels and ignore the question of source completely. This may simply mean that amount of selenocysteine is sufficient without selenite which as far as I can tell is only available by supplementation as opposed to diet.
