WHAT IS KETOGENIC NUTRITION

The goal of a ketogenic diet plan is to improve wellbeing through a metabolic change in which the primary cellular fuel source switches from carbohydrate based fuels (glucose) to fat fuels and fat metabolism products called ketones.

EAT FAT TO BURN FAT
This metabolic process is called ketogenesis, and a body state called ketosis.
Ketosis is simply a normal metabolic pathway in which the body cells utilise ketones for energy, instead of relying on sugar or carbohydrates. In fact, humans developed an evolutionary ability to burn ketones as an adaptation to periods of time when food was scarce.

WHEN YOUR BODY STOPS CRAVING SUGAR AND CARB
The presence of ketone bodies in the blood improves our health at the cellular level, specifically in the function of cellular energy pathways and mitochondrial health.

LOSE WEIGHT AND LET YOUR BODY HEAL ITSELF
Ketogenic nutrition helps you lose excess weight effectively, you burn visceral body fat and muscle tissue is formed, no saggy skin! This form of nutrition is now being used to treat medical conditions such as diabetes, epilepsy, autism, Alzheimer’s, cancer and others and much of the success of these treatments is rooted in cellular effects.

The key to understanding a ketogenic nutrition plan is to remember that one is exchanging carbohydrate containing foods with a higher fat and a moderate protein intake. The nutrient intake on a ketogenic diet typically works out to about 70-75% of calories from fat, 20-25% from protein, and 5-10% from carbohydrate on a daily basis when calories are not restricted. Although calorie counting is not required, it is important to understand how macronutrient percentages can be affected by caloric intake. Low-carb ketogenic nutrition naturally balances your appetite. You’ll eat less and won’t need to count calories which is one of the main effects of the ketogenic nutrition.

If for any reason your weight loss is stalling for more than 2-3 weeks, you may need to consider keeping an eye on your caloric intake. Reaching a weight loss plateau may be caused by several factors and you don’t necessarily have to be eating too much, in fact, you may discover that you haven’t been eating enough. In my experience, losing body fat becomes more and more difficult as you get close to your target weight.
